[comp.protocols.ibm] IBM 802.5 -> 802.3 Bridge

In reading this announcement I thought I would mention an experience
I had with IBM LAN support program. The customer was running PC LAN
program and lan support program on his PCN II/A broadband card. This
is the 2 Mb card IBM offers to replace the original PC Network card
that we designed for them. Anyway, the customer wanted to bridge
two broadband systems together across an ethernet. Since we make
a MAC bridge that supports the 2 Mb channel, he was using our stuff
for the test. Well whenever he started to do a file transfer across
the bridges, things came to a quick halt. After much head scratching,
we determined that the PC Lan support program generated packets that
were bigger than the 802.2 spec causing our bridges to choke. We
tried every conceivable combination of parameter settings in
config.sys for the LAN support drivers but nothing we did could
persuade the system to not generate illegal(from the 802 point of view
that is) packets. We finally just modified our bridge software to
accept the big packets. Two things come to mind. First, if IBM
allows big packets to come across their bridge, lots of other things
are going to be very perturbed. Two, does anyone out there know of a
setup in config.sys that eliminates the problem?
Cheers
