[comp.protocols.ibm] 3745 versus 3174 Token Ring Gateway Discussion

ART@UCONNVM.BITNET ("Arthur Radcliffe Jr.") (10/25/89)

We have a pilot Token Ring which comes in thru a local 3174 Gateway.
We are also considering using a low end 3745. We have 2 cpu's and
eventually will drive many hundred's of users over the Token Ring
and into the host thru Gateway's. While the functionality, flexibility,
and recovery are in the 3745's favor, I am wondering about the
performance of the 3745 versus say several 3174 gateways. Has anyone
any impartial comments on performance comparisons? If the 3745 is
a few tenths of a second slower, I see no problem. I have read IBM's
literature saying the 3745 is as fast, is it really? Thanks.
