Has anyone heard of a local area network (hardware & software) manufactured by Fox (a European company I am told)? It runs on a non-dedicated server (IBM AT) using a twisted pair cable, bus topology. I am trying to find out who the U.S. distributor is and any technical information about the network itself. The address of Fox or the distributor would be a good first step. Thanks. -r

Fox has several large contracts in Europe as well as this country. I have found there network hardware and software to be very reliable and easy to use. Perhaps there best asset is there support services. I have found them to be the *best* of all companies I have ever delt with. They are always willing to answer questions and to send updates of there software. I would highly recommend there products. Name........: Donald F. < this is line eater food > Probably you have heard about 10-NET from: FOX Research, Inc 7005 Corporate Way Dayton Ohio 45459 (513) 433-2238 10-NET is a relatively low-cost LAN, using Ethernet chips and protocols, but tuned down to a 1 Mbit/sec speed, allowing the use of twisted pair. Yes, it is available for IBM PC/AT, but also for IBM PC and most true compatibles like PC6300. Here in Europe it is the official PC-LAN from Olivetti. It is designed the way LANs s h o u l d be designed, i.e. distributed and no need for dedicated server! However, it works only with IBM PCs, although next version should also have a STARLAN-compatible mode. The first issue of LANSCAPES magazine contains an evaluation of it. Best wishes Tue Bertelsen AmbraSoft Denmark

I was also able to track down that the "Fox Lan" is indeed called 10-Net. The more I research into the design of this network, the more impressed I get. It is completely distributed allowing "mounting" of any resource on any machine (security permitting). It will be Netbios compatible by June they promise as well. Price per workstation is $695 (retail) complete with all software. The bus cable is extra ($.20/foot). 2000' typical, expandable to 10000' with repeaters. Performance seems to be quite reasonable according to reviews and reports I've read. This appears to be a very possible solution to resource charing in small (<32 station) offices with light network loads. Thanks for the info. Richard P. Wilkes
