pc2d+@ANDREW.CMU.EDU ("Philip Edward Cutone, III") (03/02/90)
There has been a lot of confusion regarding my previous post. Philip Dye <pd1h+@andrew.cmu.edu> seems to be the only have caught the gist of what I want to do. I wish to write a program that acts like a window manager, but over the modem instead of on the machine. The program I want to write would consist of two programs. 1> a window manager program similar to X11, or window manager This program would be run on the machine I was logged into and would take the output from all processes running and encode it before being transferred over the line. 2>a telecommunication program for the machine I am on. This program would allow me to dial up, and communicate as any comm. software would do, with one twist: Whenever it received a certain encoded command, it would create/resize/destroy/output text/ ou tput graphics (not at first of course) or whatever the window manage r program told it to do. I am yet to try screen (but will be sure to do so when I get home tonight!) although it does not seem to be exactly what I want to do. I know this is a big project (really big, considering I am just learning about C, Sockets, plugs and the such) But I am willing to make a go of it. Maybe I will finally get it done for graduation (I am a fresh now) ;-> Well, like I formally requested, I would like any source to say vt102 emulation software, or socket demonstration, or a suggestion or two, anything. The key to writing good software is finding out what people want, not what the programmer wants. I do not know if I am ever going to market this program (assuming I ever get it to work), but if I do, I will do my best to acknowledge anyone who helps me on this project, even give them a free registered copy! ;-) Well that is what I have to say, hope this clears things up a little. me sorry for the whitespace after this... me ******************************************************** Philip Edward Cutone III `And in 'The End' the love you take, is equal to the love, you make.'--Beatles 'Let's Make Love!'-- Cutone 'What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties; in form and moving how express and admirable, in action like an angel, in apprehension like a god: the beauty of the world, the paragorn of animals!' (Hamlet, Act II, scene ii) lots of comments on this quote.... YES IT IS ALSO FROM HAIR!!!! ;-> DISCLAIMER all spelling errors are there for a reason and I don't have to say why! :-P nyah! If you want to believe what I tell you, that's you own damn fault! All thoughts are my own, except those which are not. Flame me, I have a neat little button called punt that works just great! ;->
