[comp.protocols.ibm] Dos booting...

Boy do I feel STUPID! I forgot 1 little thing, my config.sys file. Well I
guess this adds another little thing people will hold against me! ;-/
sorry for the post....

All right, how about some tech info.

here is the situation (although the cause is not as important as the effect)

I was installing my mouse driver and lost my boot (playing with a mouse driven
dos and it messed up) anyway, I went through alot of hassel to get dos back.
(i didn't have it on floppy, real smart!) all I needed was a bootable disk
since I still had the files io.sys, msdos.sys, and command.com. well I got
the disk (after alot of hassel) restored the io, msdos, and command files from
my c:\dos directory, and rebooted the machine. Happy and well! it booted right
up. then I proceded to make a boot floppy. Now here comes the important part..
when I booted off floppy, dod.sys took up 8k, but when I booted off c:, dos.sys
took up 40k! I noticed that the HD boot had more interupts linked to it (9
as opposed to 6) now 32k is no laughing matter, especially when you only have
512 to begin with, so what is the scoop? why was the HD boot dos.sys so much
larger than the floppy boot. What are the extra linked interrupts? Is there
any major difference between booting off a floppy and setting comspec to
c:\command.com, and booting off a HD. I have noticed one difference in my
menu program (powermenu) it has trouble running .bat files, but not .com or
.exe. I can give a more complete description if anyone would like (actuall
interrupts [not] linked, more precise size, memory map dumps, etc...)

anyway, forgive my spelling, I am in a hurry to go play with my new mouse ;-)
hope someone has some enlightening info!
