I'm in need of detail working info on varies file transfer protocols
(Y-Modem, Z Modem, Kermit, etc) and am wandering if anyone here can help
me (or tell me who to talk to about it...)

I am unaware of a ymodem or zmodem that runs on IBM mainframes. There
is a Kermit implementation available from Columbia that runs under TSO
or CMS.

Frank da Cruz has an excellent book out on the Kermit file transfer
protocol. I can probably mail you a copy of the sixth edition Kermit
Protocol Manual (June 1986) if you like.

That is why I am thinking of writing ymodem and zmodem on my own, since I
am unable to locate them.

I can use such a book, if you would tell me the cost involved. Your help is
sincerly appreciated.

A good read, tells you everything you need to know about Kermit.

The sixth edition Kermit Protocol Manual is copyright Columbia University,
but is freely distributable. I'll mail you a copy (it is around 40k bytes).
I'll also mail a copy to anyone else who asks.
