[comp.protocols.ibm] Gateway between SNA and TCP hosts; any solutions that WORK?

karl@naitc.naitc.com (Karl Denninger) (12/08/90)

Hi Usenet.oracle.

We're experiencing no end of difficulty with our Mitek "Open Connect"
server. It simply won't work through a port contention unit; it drops
connections with a surprising amount of repeatability.

Mitek has been unable to correct the problem after repeated attempts. They
claim to be continuing to work on it, but we're out of patience and time.

Is there anyone out there who has a SNA <> TCP/IP gateway that can do the
following:

1)	Support TN3270-style connections
2)	Looks like a 3174-type controller
3)	Handles 64 or more LUs
4)	WORKS RELIABLY with a port contender on a 56KB leased line

5)	Runs on either a dedicated machine or will operate on one of:
	a)	Sun Sparcstation
	b)	ISC (Interactive 2.2) 386 Unix
	c)	MIPS Magnum

Ideally, we would also like an X-window client that can handle 3278/3279
emulation with GDDM graphics capability. Right now, though, we'll settle
for much less - like a working gateway!

Note that the client software has to be good -- we need support specifically
for Write Structured Field calls. We also need support for IND$FILE
file transfer in both directions.

Any help appreciated. I've tried LYNX and MIPS directly so far, with no
luck at all. Any other ideas?
