Hello! I've just a simple question: a friend of mine, who's working at IBM and uses the IBM-network, wonders if there is a way for him to access this network we are all using directly from his IBM-terminal (he's working in under VM/CMS and MVS/TSO-E and uses IBMtype adresses: NAME at NODE)? How, if the physical link between the two networks actually exists, should he write the adresses to be understood by TCP/IP? Does anybody know anything about this? Joel (MARGOT@eldp.epfl.ch - I'm using a friend's account for posting this letter).

LVARIAN@PUCC.BITNET ("Lee C. Varian") (02/21/91)
Tom Klensk from IBM Endicott <klensk@GDLVM7.IINUS1.IBM.COM> recently posted a helpful description on the IBM-MAIN list of how an IBM employee can find out how to register and use the Internet gateway. What follows is a slightly edited version of Tom's message. Lee Varian, Princeton University, lvarian@pucc.princeton.edu An IBM employee can do a GET for the file INTERNET REGISTER by issuing the following command on his/her VM system: TOOLS SENDTO PLKSK TOOLS IBMVM GET INTERNET REGISTER The file is an electronic form which should be filled out according to the instructions and submitted by his manager. The instructions for completion and submission of the form are contained within the form itself. The submission step consists of nothing more than a SENDFILE of the form to a service machine which does the processing. He should get access by the next day. Once he has access, he can send mail to anyone on the Internet, and anyone can send mail to him. He would use the INOTE EXEC to send notes to Internet addresses. INOTE is part of the INOTE PACKAGE. If it is not on his system already, he can refer to the header of INTERNET FORUM on IBMVM to see how to get it.
