Greetings, Does anyone know of an FTP site with a program for looking at the contents of tapes without having to know blocksizes or the format ? Preferably written in C, FORTRAN or Pascal. Any other code that could read IBM standard label tapes would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. If your site has SAS, you might wish to look at the procedures TAPECOPY and TAPELABEL. :: Frank asks - > Does anyone know of an FTP site with a program for looking at the > contents of tapes without having to know blocksizes or the format ? > Preferably written in C, FORTRAN or Pascal. Well, it's not axactly available by FTP, but IBM's DITTO for VM and VSE has always worked well for me. Just use the TCN (Tape to CoNsole) command. You don't need to tell it anything other than what drive the tape is on. The new DITTO (V3.1.0) is even fully menu-driven (which I personally am not fond of, but it's great for occasional users) and has excellent HELP screens. Hope this helps. Oh, it handles non-SL tapes and ASCII tapes too. -Ted ========================================================================= Ted Manos NAD/TechRep/InfoRep BITNET : TMANOS@HARPERVM Systems & Networking Consultant Internet: tmanos%harpervm@UICVM.uic.edu Harper Community College VoiceNet: (708) 397-3000 x 2334
