[comp.protocols.ibm] 3174 problem

ICBHC@HUNTER.BITNET (Iraida Becerra) (05/21/91)

 We are in the process of customizing a 3174-11L Control Unit, with
 a GATEWAY/TOKEN RING CONNECTION.

 We are running VM/VTAM 3.1.1, and the control unit is a Local SNA
 device. The token ring network has 24 stations.

 When we try start the PU for the Token Ring we get the following
 VTAM error:

"IST605 Error for ID=PU2XXX-Request; Contacted. Data Invalid
 for this node..."

 I'm including here the VTAM list for the Token Ring.

V25LOB00 VBUILD TYPE=LOCAL
PU2HCA13 PU    CUADDR=B01,                                             +
               MAXBFRU=12,                                             +
               DLOGMOD=D4A32782,                                       +
               USSTAB=CUNYUSS,                                         +
               MODETAB=CUNYMODT,                                       +
               VPACING=0
THCA1300 LU    LOCADDR=2,                                              +
               LOGAPPL=NMT25

 Any idea or suggestion of what is happening?

 Thanking in advance for any help,

If the 3174 thinks it is a node (PU) type 2.1, it could be sending the
wrong kind of XID to VTAM. VTAM doesn't support adjacent (eg, local
SNA) connections to type 2.1 nodes until its V3R3.

We did the same here last year--so I am trying to recall from my own
"offline" information stored in my mind. It seems we had to use an
address that ended in '0' for the cuaddr when configuring a token-ring
gateway on a 3174 address. We actually had to change the sysgen address
of the controller from 708 to 720 in order to set up the gateway.

Perhaps this might help you. The red book, "Installation Guidelines
for IBM Token-Ring Network Products", GG-24-3291-00, Chapter 9--3174
Local Gateway, has information that may help you.

Good luck!
