Greetings! We are trying to set up a bank of V.42bis modems for dial-ups, connected to an IBM 3708 "Network Conversion Unit" (Protocol converter). The 3708 refuses to talk to the modems. HELP! The gory details: We have three (3) 3708 units -- one is set up with standard (Hayes AT command set) IBM 2400 baud modems configured for 3270 full screen emulation (no problem here). One is set up for 'protocol enveloping', which allows a device to log in as a TTY (required for Kermit file transfer, also no problem here). We want to use the third 3708 for V.42bis modems, which (in theory) can transfer data at higher rates using hardware compression. The 3708 is set up the same as for the IBM modems, except that the speed is set for 9600 baud. However, the modem and 3708 refuse to acknowledge each other. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE pass them along. BTW, the 3708 is functionally very similar to a 7171, so any experience with that might be useful as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael S.
