[comp.hypercube] New Hypercubes from Ncube and Intel

Adam@hubcap.UUCP (11/10/87)

Has anyone heard of new machines from Ncube and Intel? I have heard rumors
that they are both coming out with new whiz bang machines in the near furture.
Anyone know any details?

[ There was a news release from the University of South Carolina which
claims they are a beta-test site for a new Ncube. No names were
  given.

Intel has released the iPSC/2, which is a 386 & 387 based system (check the
product announcements in the latest IEEE Computer & call your Intel Rep).

Min. memory is 1Mb. I think you can add up to 8Mb w/o a daughter board.
Network bandwidth is five-fold the iPSC. The network uses
a cut-through packet routing method. Your first hop costs you about 320
microseconds and every hop after that (assuming two packets don't collide)
costs you 20 microseconds.

Don't know what kind of software they're planning, but they do have an
agreement with CalTech, and you might see the Reactive Kernel running, as
well as the current NX system.
