[comp.hypercube] Motion to change "comp.hypercube" to "comp.parallel"

Steve Stevenson-The moderator (fpst@hubcap.clemson.edu) (02/10/88)

There seems to be sufficient sentiment to change the name of
"comp.hypercube" to "comp.parallel." We have contacted Gene
Spafford and he has given me the following directions:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The way to do it is:

1) Post to news.groups explaining that you want to change the name, and
why. Crosspost to comp.hypercube and comp.arch. Ask if there any
objections.

2) If after 10 days or 2 weeks you have no objections of note, I'll
handle the control messages for the change....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

So:

I am posting this message to all news groups which have
readers of the "comp.hypercube." There are several nonUSENET
readers that I mail directly to - they will also be contacted.

In order to simplify things, I will make the usual
(erroneous) assumption: silence means assent.

IT IS MOVED ( by fpst@hubcap.clemson.edu )
AND SECONDED ( I have several seconds sent by polling "comp.arch" and
               some discussion with local hypercubers)
THAT THE NAME OF
	comp.hypercube
BE CHANGED TO
	comp.parallel.

ALL WISHING TO VOTE SHOULD CONTACT ME AT THE BELOW ELECTONIC ADDRESS.
I WILL KEEP ALL COMMENTS AND POST NEGATIVE COMMENTS IN 'DIGEST'
FORM. YOU MAY ALSO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DESCRIBE THE SUBJECT
MATTER YOU WISH ON THE GROUP.

THE TIME PERIOD FOR COMMENTS WILL BE UNTIL 24 FEBURARY 1988.
AT THE END OF THE PERIOD, I WILL POST THE RESULTS AND, IF THE
MOTION CARRIES, SEND A NOTE TO GENE SPAFFORD.

Ha - that's the most formal I've been in my whole life. Apologies to
the parliamentarians among you ;-)
