For the last month or so, I have been making the rounds of local suppliers in an attempt to upgrade an IBM AT into a reasonable UNIX workstation. The machine would be used for program development of quantum chemistry packages to be run on 4.xBSD VAXen, SUNs, and their like, hence compatibility with full UNIX systems both at the system and user interfaces is a strong concern. However contrary to the intriguing tidbits that seem to pass by on the net, all I seem to run into is XENIX (SYS III). Isn't XENIX (SYS V) released? Does it have virtual memory, paging, or does it use process swapping? Is VENIX available for the AT? What is SCO XENIX? Is there anyplace where the pros and cons of such a beast are discussed? I would appreciate any information, comparisons, suggestions and/or addresses which might assist. I will summarize any mail responses on the net if others show similar interest. Also, does anyone know of existing UNIX versions of the following or their equivalents: Gaussian 80 HONDO/GAMESS MRD-CI xNDO MOLSCAT Ross W.
