A word-of-mouth statistic from several friends hailing from the Soo: The number of Italian speaking residents outnumber the French speaking residents by about 3 to 1. The Unilingual thing sounds like the thing to do for the Soo. A couple hours east: Sudbury is another matter because much (30-40%) of the population there is francophone. There is legislation being presented to Sudbury City Council requiring all City staff to be francophones (read: mother tongue = french); being bilingual just won't do. Just when the place is looking great (green grass, trees, clean water, cheap houses), I can't go home to work because I was brought up in an english home. What a country. -- Doug Eastick -- eastick@me.utoronto.ca
