[net.micro] what I really want is...

kds@intelca.UUCP (Ken Shoemaker) (01/18/86)

a CMOS, battery backed up, real time clock with some small amount of
battery backed up RAM (or really, any kind of storage...access to it
can be really gross if that is all that is available). Any pointers?

If you are looking for chip level stuff, Ricoh makes a chip that is fairly
compatable with the direct bus attached version of the standard OKI chip,
and contains about 31 bytes of protected ram.

Motorola has been talking for Aeons now about a 'Micro-Ben' clock chip that
also has internal ram. I don't know if it's available yet, or how compatable
it is with the clock chip used in the AT.

In the original article: Wanted a CMOS Battery Backed Up clock with
some backed up memory.

Try SmartWatch from Dallas Semiconductor (214) 450-0400.

A unique device in a 28-pin DIP SOCKET!.

Inside the socket is a lithium battery and a clock chip
that keeps track of Years, Months, Day of Month, Days, Hours, Minutes,
Seconds, and Hundreds of Seconds.

The socket accepts a CMOS 2K x 8 or 8K x 8 ram.
Watch operation independant of Ram function.

Access to the watch is via a bizzare 64 access serial stream into Data 0
of the ram.

I just got a nice note from Phil Weinburg at Motorola indicating that I was
in error. Watch me blush in embarressment. The 'Micro-Ben' part I was casting
spears at belongs to National; Motorola has had clock chip with memory for years
now.
