Does anyone know if the RT's version of BSD 4.2 includes support for the XNS protocols? Can anyone describe its network capabilities in more detail? -- Kevin Crowston UUCP: {seismo,ut-sally}!harvard!kevin MIT Sloan School of Management ARPA: kevin@harvard.ARPA

The hardware supported is (to quote from IBM's ACIS announcement: o Ethernet: Several Ethernet controllers are available; IBM Academic Information Systems 4.2 provides a sample device driver for the Ungermann-Bass Ethernet con- trollers, numbers 2274A and 2273A, which have been tested in the IBM RT PC with IBM Academic Information Systems 4.2. Ethernet controllers are not available from IBM and must be supplied by the customer. o IBM 6100 Token-Ring Network Adapter: The 6100 Token-Ring Network Adapter provides connection of the IBM RT PC Models 6150 and 6151 to the IBM Token-Ring Network. The network uses the IBM Cabling System for physical connection and a token-ring access proto- col for network traffic control. NOTE: Installing either two Ethernet adapters, two IBM Token-Ring adapters, or one of each, in the same hardware configuration is not supported and is not recommended. (end of IBM quote) Note that AIX the Sys V derivative for the RT supports the IBM PC Network Adapter and not the Ethernet or Token-Ring adapters. -- Skip Addison {decwrl, lll-crg}!amdcad!cae780!ubvax!skip
