[comp.binaries.ibm.pc] moderator for binaries

davidsen@steinmetz.ge.com (William E. Davidsen Jr) (04/11/88)

                  A Moderator for comp.binaries.ibm.pc

A month ago I offered to take votes on a moderator for the binaries
group. I accepted resumes for two weeks, posted them as a collection,
and accepted votes for two weeks. Votes could be for either of the two
people who offered to moderate, or for "no moderator." In fact there
were a number of write-in votes.

Bill	2	Bill Davidsen - not a candidate, just a poll watcher
Brian	15	Brian O'Neill - moderator of the Software Xchange
Rahul	50	Rahul Dhesi - author of zoo
No	8	No moderator
Yes	4	Want moderator, no preference
Yes/P	2	Want moderator, asked me to vote for them
Yes/N	1	Want moderator, didn't like either candidate

I would like to thank the people who voted for me, but I don't have
the time to moderate this group and run a mailing list and and user
group. I appreciate the people who asked me to cast their vote for them,
I have cast their vote and mine for "Yes," because I have dealt with
both of them and feel either will do an excellent job. I wish there had
been an equally qualified candidate who wasn't already busy doing things
for the PC user.

There was one Yes/N (want moderator but didn't like either candidate).
Counting the three additional votes (mine and two proxies) there were 78
yes votes and 8 no votes. This group should clearly be moderated.

I counted all votes by hand to insure that the software didn't make
any counting errors. About 90% of the text I received was headers, there
were a few votes which reached me by duplicate paths. The variety of
return addresses was educational.

I am sending a copy of this to the backbone in hopes that they will
act on the expressed wishes of the group. I hope this will be my last
non-binary posting to the binaries group.

I'd like to congratulate Rahul on being elected moderator, and I am sure he
will do an excellent job. I can't wait to see this group moderated at last,
and some control exhibited. I hope I can be of assistance, as far as
securing any needed programs, or anything.
