<invisible line> I just got a copy of the "official" IBM blurb on the PC RT (32 pages). A S-word load of products were announced along with the 3 basic boxes. RT mod 10 (desktop, 40Meg) $11700 RT mod 20 (standalone, 40Meg) 14945 RT mod 25 (standalone, 70Meg) avail 3Q 17940 advanced mono/graph disp 610 advanced color/graph disp 1550 extended mono/graph disp 1150 streamer 55Meg 1795 1MB memory 1700 2MB memory 2995 40MB fixed disk 2295 70MB fixed disk 3995 floating point accel. 850 AT coprocessor board 995 streamer adpt 430 4-port async 425 advanced mono adpt 775 extended mono adpt 1450 advanced color adpt 1350 RT Virtual Resource Manager (VRM) 1000 AIX 3400 data management 500 sql 1000 AT coprocessor services 550 3278/9 emulation 500 samna+ 1295 uniras packages solomon III acct packages applix IA Note that warrantee is on-site for all hardware for 12 mos. Model 25 and associated hardware (advanced color/extended mono/70MB disk) are to be available 3Q86 as well as some of the application software. The model 20 may be expanded to 180MB of disk storage (40/70/70) and the model 25 may have 3 70MB disks (210MB max). The streaming tape is fully supported by AIX. Basic, Pascal, Fortran were also released. Also note that the distribution chain will not be the same as that for the other PC series. DAVAR's will not be supported and not all dealers will qualify. The RT may have as many as eight users and may be expanded to 4MB of physical memory and 1 Terabyte of virtual memory. DOS applications may run on the AT coprocessor board concurrently with AIX. The AIX implementation is based on AT&T System V release 1 with "chosen" SVR2 and BSD4.2 enhancements. General availability of the model 10 and 20 will be in March. -robin ( ..{gatech,akgua}!itcatl!robin )

Really? I wonder if many systems are going to have 14,000+ 70 meg disks :-) Bruce Barnett

If you start thinking about the year 2000 then these limits are not ludicrous at all. -- Joel Upchurch @ CONCURRENT Computer Corporation (A Perkin-Elmer Company) Southern Development Center 2486 Sand Lake Road/ Orlando, Florida 32809/ (305)850-1031 {decvax!ucf-cs, ihnp4!pesnta, vax135!petsd}!peora!joel
