> Users of a Microsoft OEM'ed Macro Assembler/MASM (with (C) Microsoft on it) > can now to update to the latest version of the Microsoft Macro > Assembler v 4.00. For details, contact Microsoft at (800) 426-9400. > In Washington State and Alaska call (206)828-8088. In Canada call (800) > 387-6616. This is a short, public thank you to Sandra Jacobson and anyone else at Microsoft who is responsible for the above "enhancement" to their upgrade policy. It is gratifying to see a vendor respond positively to customer concerns with a win-win solution to a problem. Hopefully, attitudes such as this will continue to grow ... not only at Microsoft, but at other vendors as well. It's much more productive for *everyone* to have friendly vendor- customer relationships rather than adversarial ones. Again, THANK YOU! /kim -- UUCP: {decvax,ucbvax,ihnp4}!decwrl!mips!kim DDD: 415-960-1200 USPS: MIPS Computer Systems Inc, 1330 Charleston Rd, Mt View, CA 94043

The assembler promptly arrived 3 weeks later. Microsoft representatives at their 800 number have been quite friendly and helpfull in providing information concerning this upgrade. I own a Tandy 2000 and MASM 1.0 licensed to Tandy. Originally, Microsoft would only upgrade their own MASMs and some other OEMs (IBM, TI, and Zenith). Due to a hot debate over the net, Microsoft changed their upgrade policy: now, all owners of OEMed MASMs would be able to upgrade to version 4.0. I think thatMicrosoft's reputation will benefit from this new policy. The upgrade package includes the MASM diskette and one manual. The manual consists of two sections: Microsoft Macro Assembler Users's Guide and Microsoft Macro Assembler Reference Manual. They are well organized, quite complete, and include numerous examples. As advertised, MASM 4.0 assembles code much faster than its previous versions. Overall, I rate MASM 4.0 package between good and excellent. ps: kim@mips -> I guess you can now upgrade your Fujitsu MASM? Send your success with the upgrade via net mail to me.
