CREATION OF NEW NEWS-GROUP........net.chem
A number of Chemists here at Memorial University have
recently discovered UNIX. Most of us are organic chemists
and are not of the 'number crunching' clique. We feel that a
new news-group
net.chem
could be a valuable service to the chemical community. Pos-
sible uses are:
Exchange of UNIX information related to chemistry. (eg.
I have BIB files that will format for several chemical
journals well as a journal abbreviation list that might
be of interest.)
Reviews of new equipment and perhaps warnings!
Calls for help with supplies of rare chemicals and
chemical samples for comparison purposes or biological
testing.
A forum for the discussion of chemical problems.
Reviews of instructional software... CAL/CAI
Announcements of meetings.
etc.
We would be interested to know if there are other chemists
out on the net who would support the introduction of such a
group.

I suggest that instead of defining a new group, the definition of net.physics may be broadened to include other physical sciences such as chemistry. If the amount and nature of chemical traffic (or degree of objection from other net.physics readers) warrants, then net.chem could be created later. The same remarks probably apply to net.astro, but it is too late now. Mark Brader
