From malpass @ ll-vlsi.arpa: > THE QUESTION: Can anybody out there endorse, or advise against, >spreadsheet and/or database management programs they've tried running >under unix? I've been teaching myself Informix (tm) by Relational Database Systems, Inc. for the last week. It's fairly easy to learn - I've set up some reasonable databases so far (and I'm no wiz!). It's basically a screen oriented relational database that incorporates some interesting features under Unix, such as 1) you can restrict access to entire databases, files, or even fields according to login group or login name; 2) if you have something to do that Informix can't handle, you can write a C program to do it and have Informix execute it appropriately. I haven't begun to explore Informix's capabilities or shortcomings, but it seems reasonable enough so far. Maybe someone on the net will add to this? Good luck! Keith <kdale @ bbncc-eur.arpa>

We have been using Informix (tm) for over 2 years. It does all time-keeping and billing in our law office. It also keeps track of clients and matters. We will shortly be adding accounting using Informix (tm). All this has been done so far without any C programming, using only the tools available in Informix (tm). We have not yet tried Informix SQL (Structured Query Languange) or RDS's new 4th GL Application Generator. -- Bob Hartley inuxc!mwhhlaw!bob Indianapolis
