[misc.jobs.resumes] CS Junior seeks summer internship/employment

pswisnov@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (Peter S. Wisnovsky) (01/29/88)

I am a 3rd year undergraduate seeking summer employment in a field related
to computer science: I am especially interested in applications
of computers in science, particularly in the biological sciences.
A resume follows.

Objective

Summer employment in a field related to Computer Science, with a
special interest in applications of computing to other fields of
science such as biology.

Relevant Academic Experience

I am currently a Junior at Princeton University working towards an
A.B. degree in Computer Science. By the end of the spring 1987-1988
term I will have completed the following computer science related
courses at the University:

*	Theory of Automata and Computation: theory of mathematical models
of computing devices through the study of abstract machines and
	corresponding formal languages.

*	Computational Geometry: introduction to the study of geometric
	algorithms.

*	Compilation Techniques: algorithms and concepts of translator
systems; the course-work centers around writing a compiler for a
programming language of the student's design, using the tools
provided by the Unix operating system.

*	Data Structures: fundamental computer algorithms and data
structures in the Pascal programming language.

*	Discrete Mathematics: the mathematics of integers and algorithms,
	geared towards CS majors.

*	Computer Systems Organization: organization of computer system
hardware and software, including the VAX Unix Assembler and C
programming languages and the Unix operating system.

*	Artificial Intelligence and Human Cognition: an introduction to AI
topics and the LISP programming language.

In addition to course-work, the Department of Computer Science
requires all A.B. CS Juniors to complete an Independant Work project
on a topic to be agreed upon by the student and his or her
advisor(s), in two one-term parts: my first-term project was a
simulation of natural selection in trees, using fractal models and
light-gathering efficiency as the agent of selection; my advisors on
this project are Professor Andrew Appel of the Computer Science
Department and Professor Henry Horn of the Biology Department. The
project was written in Think Technology's LightSpeed C compiler
	for the Macintosh.

I also took the following course at Princeton High School:

*	Advanced Placement Computer Science: instruction in the Apple II
Pascal programming language in preparation for the Computer
Science Advanced Placement exam (my score on this exam placed me
in a sophomore-level computer science course upon entering
	Princeton).

Relevant Employment Experience

I am currently employed by the University as the on-site consultant
for an AppleTalk local-area network in my dormitory.

April 1987 - August 1987
Worked for a group of astrophysicists at the Institute for Advanced
Study developing tools for modeling collisions of galaxies, with an
emphasis on writing tools for display of images, and on the
generation of images from spatial information using geometric
algorithms; in C on Sun workstations.

February 1987 - April 1987
Student Site Manager, Engineering Quadrangle Information Center,
	Princeton University Computing Center.
Responsible for the operation of the site, supervision of student
consultants and the training of new or narrowly-trained consultants
in accordance with a published core curriculum.

January 1986- February 1987
Student Consultant, 87 Prospect Information Center, Princeton
	University Computing Center.
Primary duties included: assisting students and faculty members in
the use of a variety of software packages on a number of different
operating systems, including Macintosh, VM/CMS on an IBM 3081, Unix
on a VAX 8700 and MS-DOS on IBM Personal Computers.
In addition to assisting users in the Information Center, some
consultants also give lectures at the Computing Center in areas of
expertise: I have given lectures on both Text Processing using
Microsoft Word and Communications with the Macintosh.

Summer, 1985
Worked on a project for International Cyber Machines, Inc., to
implement a phonetic character system for Chinese language and
related tools on a Macintosh in C and Pascal.

Winter 1983 to Spring 1985 (full-time during the summers and part -
		time during the school years)
Retail sales, Clancy-Paul Computer Store, Princeton University Store
division (Apple Macintosh and IBM Personal Computer systems). I was
especially involved in dealing with the Apple University Consortium
	project.

Fall 1982 to Fall 1983 (summer and school year)
Retail sales, Harry Strauss and Sons (Commodore, Apple II and IBM PC
	compatible computer systems).
