Computer Retail News, Mar 17 issue, did a nice, detailed (and in some cases, destructive) analysis of a number of available surge protector/voltage isolator devices. I'll put together a condensed version of this and move it up to INFO-IBMPC to see if it's acceptable/usable. (Won't be general distribution in this newsletter because of anticipated size.) Their bottom line was "You get what you pay for." Acceptable were: EFI Corporation's EDP 2000 Power Control Center PTI Industries' Datashield P-150 Power Control Center Tripp Lite Manufacturing's Isobar Command Console Kensington Microware Ltd.'s Master Piece Plus (ok, but not for lightning) Poor: Perma Power Electronics Power Commander RS 562 Questionable: Dynatech Computer Power Inc.'s Power Center/1000 Electronic Protection Devices Inc.'s Squash Usual disclaimers: I didn't conduct the tests, don't own any part of any of the above companies (or any other related company or industry), and make all my own surge protectors anyway! And I'm not interested in an argument as to the pros and cons of any surge protection device .. this is just for information. David Kirschbaum Toad Hall ABN.ISCAMS@USC-ISID.ARPA
