[net.news.group] net.cs

wbpesch@ihuxp.UUCP (Walt Pesch) (02/09/84)

I would like to propose a new newsgroup for the discussion of the
various academic issues of computer science, with the emphasis being
placed on the theoretical. This would also serve as a forum for
"thinktanking" on the various developments in computer science. And
also as a place to ask questions and get opinions from the many
learned scholars on the net on Computer Science.

This occured when I was trying to get information in regards to the
RISC theory, and upon wanting to ask the news popylation what they
knew aobut this recent development, could find no single newsgroup to
post this to. Because of this, I posted to att.general, net.general,
net.micro, and net.research (which I have never seen but postnews
tells me that it exists.) Thank You.

We already have net.cse for Computer Science Education.
Please, check the newsgroup list before proposing a group

The original proposal was for a group to discuss *Computer Science*,
which is distinct from *Computer Science Education*.

However, the original example (RISC) is a valid topic for net.arch
(which discusses computer architecture, not buildings), and was
actually discussed there.

There is already a net.research group which would probably cover this topic.
