[comp.software-eng] Software Quality/Productivity Exchanges

duncan@dduck.ctt.bellcore.com (Scott Duncan) (06/09/89)

I am a Member of the Technical Staff at Bell Communications Research. For over
a year, I have surveyed organizations in the US about their software quality
and productivity practices. Folks at Bellcore have also visited major Japanese
firms last year and I am familiar with these contacts as well.

I want to talk to development and R&D people about their software activities
and any Q&P programs they have including metrics, reuse practices, development
tools, testing/QA procedures, etc. The idea is to compare what is done in
Europe with what seems to be going on in the US and Japan. In general, I am
looking for companies who do 'large' projects either in terms of code size (250
and up) or staff (30+ people on a project). I am also interested in how people
approach real-time systems as compared to more information processing ones.
Therefore, I am interested in talking to telecommunications companies, software
vendors, business data processing concerns, engineering/scientific companies,
and/or electronics firms. But the focus will be software quality and produc-
tivity, not hardware.

I plan to attend CASE '89 at Imperial College (London) July 17-21 where I hope
to meet people from European firms to discuss software quality and productivity
(Q&P) issues. Thus, if you will be at CASE '89 (or have an interest in commu-
nicating via email or FAX on software Q&P issues), I'd be glad to hear from you.
I also hope to visit BTRL, IBM (Hursley), and, perhaps, H-P Labs (Bristol) in
the UK. And then the week of the 24th-28th, I will be visiting Ericsson in
Stockholm, Philips in Eindhoven, and, not confirmed yet but hopefully, Siemens
in Munich and CNET in France (I am not sure which CNET location yet). If you
are from any of these companies, perhaps we can say hello when I visit them as
well if you are not going to be at CASE '89.

I am sending this around to lots of newsgroups where I think interest MAY ex-
ist for such contact. But PLEASE repond to me rather than posting -- I have
an answering machine on the VOICE line if you prefer to call.

Speaking only for myself, of course, I am...
