[comp.software-eng] Summary of bug tracking responses

jbash@dustbin.cisco.com (John Bashinski) (08/23/89)

Thanks to all who responded to my question about bug tracking software.

It looks like there's one (count it, one) commercial bug tracking system
running on UNIX machines. A couple of leads to companies that "might
be planning to sell" their internal systems failed to pan out. The one
system is DDTS from Qualtrack. The contact is:

        Mike Maneley
        Qualtrack Corporation
        +1 408 276 3157
        3444 Pepperidge Drive
        San Jose, CA 95148

I haven't used or seen the system myself. Of the three people who mentioned
it, two seemed favorably impressed. The third was *not* impressed, but admitted
to a possible personal bias.

They have a brochure and will provide a demo tape if you're willing to
sign a nondisclosure agreement. I haven't seen the agreement (yet) so I
can't comment on how reasonable it is. If you buy the software, licensing
is per user; bottom of the line is $9500 for a 20-user license. Additional
users (up to 60 total) are $400 each. There are price breaks after that.
You're required to pay an additional 20 percent for two years' support.
