[net.micro] Canon Personal Copier Cartridges

re: "Can anyone tell me if the cartridges sold for Canon Personal Copiers
will also work properly in either the HP LaserJet ..."

I asked the same question when the LJ was introduced. What I heard was:

* The Canon LBP-CX print engine (as used in the LJ and other printers) is a
reversal processor - where light (the laser) hits the imager, it will be
dark (take toner) on the printed page.

* The copiers are positive processors - where light (reflected from the
original document) hits the imager, it will remain light (no toner) on the
  printed page.

* If you could install a copier cartridge in the LBP-CX, the pages would
have white print on a black background. Canon, in their infinite wisdom,
made the cartridges mechanically different to prevent this.

Regards, Hewlett-Packard
