How do computer vendors develop their system software? By 'system software' I mean: operating system, database, transaction monitor ... etc., not application software. And by 'How' I mean: - which software development tools do they use - what kind of software life cycle is adopted - are case tools used (for system software) - is software development done in several locations? If so, how are they coordinated? - how are communication networks used to facilitate system software development? In answering the above questions I am looking for what is more or less the norm within the computer vendor's organization. Computer vendors that come to mind include: IBM, DEC, Unisys, NCR, HP, ... etc. I will summarize and post all responses. Ra'ad Siraj
