Hi... I'm looking for information on any manufacturers of custom computer hardware on the scale of handheld pocket sized dictionaries or language translators. I have a friend who is developing a product that is targeted to be a pocket sized computer that will need anywhere from roughly 750k bytes to 2 Megabytes of read-only storage plus up to 128k of RAM with some provision for non-volatile storage (may need as little as 32k of the non-volatile RAM). A keyboard and display is a requirement, though the display does not need to be very large (40 characters by 8 lines would be an absolute minimum). Development tools for that platform are a consideration if the company producing the hardware can't also code the software for their platform. If anybody has any information on companies that do custom hardware on this technology level, I'd definitely like to hear about it. Going to Sharp or Casio is a possibility, but I'd like to find out as much as possible first about what else is available on the market today. My friend would like to find an individual or company in the Portland (Oregon) Metro Area, but that is certainly not a requirement. He is serious and perhaps willing to give a percentage of sales from the product as compensation for a timely hardware solution for his product. Please reply via e-mail since my net access is somewhat sporadic. Thanks in advance for all replies! ...Marc... -- Marc Frajola, ..!tektronix.TEK.COM!tessi.UUCP!escargot!marc Phone: (503) 643-5203 [Beaverton, OR]
