As a staunch supporter for the formation of subgroups where applicable,
I hereby remove my previous support for net.religion.jewish. There is
***NO*** excuse for personal attacks on a person simply because he
disagree's with you. I can not condone that conduct, and I will not be
associated with it in any way, shape or form.
For the first time in a long time on the network, I am truly p*ss*d off at
two anonymous people who seem to have forgotten that there is a difference
between an argument and an attack. Even the pro-wobegoners had better sense
than this (not much, but thats another story :->). True, the fight for
net.religion.jewish has been going against its creation, but that does not
mean you have the right to attack those that disagree with you. If you
can't win a argument with the facts, trying to win the argument by
intimidation (and accusing people of being anti-semitic IS intimidation,
as well as being insulting) is inexcusable.
This is a very large network of a large group of people. This means that
there is will be a very large divergence of opinion on the net. If everyone
agreed with everyone else, this wouldn't be a tool for information, it'd be
narcissism. Or Russia. Take your pick.
There are simply no words to express how badly I feel to Darth about
how low some people have sunk in their attempts to get their way
regardless of what the majority of the users of the net feel. I know
that they are a very small minority of the users of the net, but
somehow that fact doesn't make me feel any better right now. I'm
disgusted. Worse, I'm disappointed. I expect a minimum level of
humanity from the people on the net, and I am constantly being suprised
by people who fall below that. Darth and I have disagreed on a number
of occasions, probably more than we have agreed. However, both of our
beliefs are based on our vision of what the network should look like,
and how it can be made to work better. He is a good person, and I
respect him and his opinions even if I don't like them all of the time,
and he has done the same for me (and many others).
Darth, I'm sorry this happened to you. I wish it hadn't. Because I can't
keep other people from showing how small and immature they are, all I can
do it apologize for them and the net. It isn't enough, but I hope it helps.
