Call for participation:

            Object-Oriented Program Development Environments
                               Workshop
                 (in conjunction with ECOOP/OOPSLA '90)
                        Monday, October 22, 1990
                             Ottawa, Canada

Among other software development environments, Program Development
Environments (PDE's) are focused on assisting language-specific program
design, coding, testing, and maintenance activities. An object-oriented
approach introduces two major features to PDE's: (1) representation of
program components and their relationships as objects that are manipulated
by the user through an object-oriented interface, and (2) greater
encapsulation of environment components and increased extensibility of
environment functionality.

This workshop will concentrate on problems and approaches to the design and
implementation of OOPDE's. Issues to be discussed will include (but are by
no means limited to): open vs. closed environments, support for development
in multiple languages, support for tools written in multiple languages,
data-integration of tools, and use of an OODBMS as a persistent store.

This one day workshop will be broken up into two parts. In the
first part, presentations by participants will be used to collect
issues related to the design and implementation of OOPDE's and approaches
that address them. In the second part, these issues and approaches
will be discussed and summarized by the participants.

Participation is by invitation. Please send:
  1. Either a general position paper (for a 20-30 min. presentation) or a
shorter position paper (10-15 min. presentation or no presentation)
that relates particular experiences with OOPDE's.
  2. Your e-mail, FAX, and surface addresses.
by August 1, 1990 to the workshop organizers below. Participants will be
notified no later than September 10.
