The department is considering the creation of a software engineering course in the Computer Science curriculum. In the past, we have felt that students can get SE experience via special projects from industry or project for use in the university. These kind of project have taken place under the supervision of a faculty member. We now feel that a formal structured course in SE should be mandatory. I have been asked to design (and teach) such course to be imple- mented next fall. I need help to decide on a course outline (topics), texbook and extra reading materials, and project assignments. Another concern is the kind of programming environment to be available for students; in particular, what software development support tools we must acquire for them (CASE tools?). I'm sure that a course like this has been taught in other undergraduate programs. I'll be grateful if you please share your experience with me so that I can design a better course. I'll appreciate any and every guidance you can give me in designing the course. I'll post a summary based on interest. Thank you.
