[net.micro] Boy, was I wrong!

kdale@BBNCC-EUR.arpa (Keith Dale) (04/28/86)

The thing that I like about the net is that retribution is swift and just. My
thanks to prindle@NADC and apologies to all!

Subject: C128 CP/M

Sorry, but you are wrong. The CP/M on the 128 is Digital Research's CP/M 3.0,
and any generic (i.e. does not directly address memory mapped I/O or I/O ports,
but always goes through the BDOS - also does not directly call BIOS) CP/M
program which fits in a 58K TPA (virtually all) will run just fine. Terminal
dependent programs like WordStar need to be configured for the C128 terminal
emulation, which is basically an ADM31 or ADM3A. For example, I ordered a copy
of Mix C (compiler) recently and specified Osborne Double Density format, and it
runs 100% on the 128. The only problem is the 2MHz Z-80 does not have the
performance of the faster Z-80 chips found in many other CP/M systems.
