                           The University College of Wales
                                   Aberystwyth
                                25--27 March 1991

     AIM
     ===
     The Software Engineering Environments 1991 conference is the fifth in a
     series of major conferences to be held on software engineering
     environments - the premier European professional meetings to review,
     discuss, debate and learn about the most recent practice and research
     results in the field. In previous years, the conference has been held
     at the Universities of Lancaster, York, Keele and Durham.

     Speakers from key European projects will present the latest results and
     trends in the area of software engineering environments and software
     factories. Projects giving such technical presentations include ESF,
     ATMOSPHERE, and many of the ESPRIT projects in the area.

     Information on developments in the United States of America will be
     given by our guest speaker, Leon Osterweil, of the University of
     California.

     The conference is sponsored by the Institution of Electrical Engineers,
     Commission of the European Communities, under its SPRINT and ESPRIT
     Programmes, and the Information Technology Division of the Department
     of Trade and Industry.

     The proceedings of the conference will be published; each delegate will
     receive a copy at no extra cost.

     AUDIENCE
     ========
     The content of the conference will cover material of interest to
     researchers, to managers, to those who act as `technology gateways' in
     their organisations, in fact to all those who are concerned with the
     increasingly important areas of tool support interfaces, software
     engineering environments and software factories.

     An important benefit of the conference is the formal and informal
     exchanges of ideas between researchers and practitioners in the
     pleasant surroundings of the West Wales coastal resort of Aberystwyth.

     PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL ARRANGEMENTS
     ================================
     Aberystwyth is a small seaside town on the West coast of Wales. It can
     be reached by train from London (via Birmingham and Shrewsbury), or by
     road from Manchester and Birmingham airports (about two and a half
     hours in each case). We expect to arrange transport from and to these
     airports if the demand justifies it.

     Accommodation has been arranged in a new student hall of residence,
     Trefloyne Hall, for the nights of Sunday 24th to Tuesday 26th March.
     The conference will start after breakfast on the Monday morning and
     finish at lunchtime on the Wednesday. There will be a conference dinner
     on the Tuesday evening and a cheese and wine party on the Sunday
     evening for people to join as they arrive.
