I'm looking for references and/or implementations of PCTE, the "Portable Common Tools Environment". Does anyone have any information on it? Thanks, Dale

There is one commercial implementation of PCTE specifications 1.5 by a French Company called GIE Emeraude. For more information on their product which (not surprisingly) is called Emeraude (I think current version is V 12), contact their Sales Manager Dominique Soufflet at the address below: Direction Commerciale 38, Bd Henri Sellier 92154 SURESNES CEDEX FRANCE Tel: 33 1 45 06 50 34 fax: 33 1 42 04 04 96 To the best of my knowledge, the Emeraude product is the *only* commercial PCTE implementation. There have been other PCTE proto- types implemented by Olivetti etc but these have never been sold as commercial products. There is some further work going on to enhance and evolve PCTE towards an ECMA/PCTE version. There is also an EAST project in Europe which is building a full Software Engineering Environment around PCTE. According to the Emeraude blursheet (distributed at the last Toulouse'90 exhibition and conference - SE & Applications) :- "[...] A list of CASE tools running in the PCTE environment is established by the PCTE Promotion Group (PPG) and can be obtained by contacting PPG or GIE Emeraude. PPG members are: Bull, CEC DG XIII, Digital, HP, Generics Software, GIE Emeraude, IPSYS Software, SFGL, STC & SYSECA. [...]" Emaraude product Emeraude V12 is available on or being ported into Sun3, HP9000, IBM RS/6000, Dec station 5000, Bull DPX/2, and provides :- o Libraries for C programming (PCTE 1.5 bindings, version management, metabase, dilogue management and data query utilities); o Utilities (network DB admin, graph archiving, data modeling and SDS management using a metabase, object management and database navigation, composite objects version management); o Unix derived utilities (encapsulation method with source code, "Free Software Foundation" derived utilities). I am not aware of another implementation of PCTE although the exhibitors guide has a reference to couple of other companies that "participated" in the standard definition and are "currently working" on PCTE products, these are Mark V Systems, Logiqual, and Softpen.
