ICSE 14
CALL FOR PAPERS
14th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
ON
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Melbourne Australia
11-15 May 1992
World Congress Centre
PAPERS, PANEL PROPOSALS,TUTORIAL PROPOSALS,
EXPERIENCE REPORTS AND TOOL EXHIBITS
THEME: TRUSTED SYSTEMS
Society is becoming increasingly reliant on computerized systems
for tasks such as communication, group interaction, financial planning,
decision making, product design, production, and distribution. Today
computerized systems manage complex applications such as industrial plants,
health systems, defence systems, and air traffic control. The quality of human
life, and even life itself, is increasingly dependent on such applications.
A key question then is how can we build these complex systems so that they
deserve the trust that we must ultimately place upon them. This fundamental
question can be decomposed into several more specific questions. For example,
how can these systems be specified and how can these specifications be
assessed? How can we reliably derive components from these specifications or
construct systems from existing reliable components? How can we plan and
control such a project? How can we support and monitor development and
evolution assuring reliability throughout the process?
Such questions are being addressed by researchers with the goal of finding
long-term solutions. At the same time, practitioners are accumulating
experience with methods and tools and providing researchers with vital
feedback. ICSE provides a forum for both communities to meet and exchange
ideas and experiences.
ICSE will offer a variety of presentations: tutorials, refereed research and
experience papers, panels, tools demonstrations, and poster sessions. The
goals of the conference are (1) to present the most current and outstanding
theoretical, experimental, and practical work being conducted in support of
software engineering, with special emphasis on those efforts that support the
development and maintenance of trusted systems and (2) to present a view of the
state-of-the-art and practice of software engineering.
SUBMISSIONS: REFEREED PAPERS are limited to 6000 words, with full-page figures
being counted as 300 words. These papers should include a short abstract, list
of keywords, and lead author's address. The content of these papers should not
have been published before nor currently being considered for publication
elsewhere. Refereed papers will be evaluated with respect to originality,
significance, soundness, and clarity. Papers presenting research,
experimental, or experience results are welcome. Research papers should
indicate how the results contribute to software engineering practice.
Experimental papers should describe the experimental method and interpret the
results in terms of practice. Experience papers should describe practical
experience with state- of-the-art software engineering methods or tools and,
most importantly, assess the costs and benefits resulting from their use. All
papers should indicate what is new and significant about the work presented and
how it compares with related work. Accepted papers will appear in the
conference proceedings. The program committee will also select the best
accepted papers to be considered for publication in a special issue of a major
journal.
PANEL PROPOSALS should include the title, a brief substantive description, the
panel chair and panelists (including short vitae). Proposals will be selected
according to the substance and contribution to the conference program.
POSTER PAPERS should be no more than 2 pages in length and may report anything
from new results to experience. Poster papers will be selected on the basis of
interest and contribution to the conference program and will be grouped into
sessions of 10 minute presentations.
Eight (8) copies of REFEREED PAPERS, PANEL PROPOSALS, and POSTER PAPERS should
be submitted by September 6, 1991 to Program Co-chair, Lori A Clarke.
TUTORIAL PROPOSALS should describe important software engineering methods and
tools and include a detailed description of a half or full day tutorial and the
relevant experience of the tutor. Proposals will be selected to their substance
and contribution to the conference program. Tutorial proposals should be
submitted by September 6, 1991 to the Tutorial Chair, Dewayne E Perry.
TOOLS FAIR PROPOSALS should represent current experimental and commercial
state-of-the-art tools and include a brief description of the tool and the
planned demonstration, indicating if a presentation is desired. Exhibits and
presentations will be selected on the basis of their importance, relevance, and
novelty. Tools Fair proposals should be submitted by 31 January 1992 to the
Tools Fair Chair, John Leaney.
