I was asked a question earlier today, to which I had an immediate response, but then I wondered if people on the net had better ideas. The question I was asked was; " What are the best software companies in the US?", to which I immediately replied, "Define best". So I ask netusers; what are the standards by which you measure the "best" software companies, and then who are they? The standards by which "best' is measured should be objective in order to relate them to any company. For example, does everyone know and agree on the SEI Assessment, and the resultant rating as a scale? For non DoD companies, does sales enter into the equation? Or is it that elusive item we all work on, "quality" software? Do you need to have available comparable metrics (if metrics should be part of the evaluation, and if so, how)? If you do not want to compare measurements, what would you use? Customer satisfaction? How? Please email responses to kambic%astro.decnet@icd.ab.com. I will be more than glad to post a summary to the net, that is, assuming people out there have opinions on such a minor subject> (8;-)) George X.
