I am looking for a good book on semantic data modelling, with practical applications. I read Teorey's "Data modeling and design" which a good guide for the use of enhanced ER techniques. I am looking for a book which describes advanced techniques based on generalization and aggregation, something a bit beyond the traditional ER. Thanks, Igor V. Gordon Siemens Corporate Research

As I had posted some time ago, we have such a book: "Information modeling concepts and guidelines", Bellcore Special Report SR-OPT-001826. About 70 pages, and not for the uninitiated, but we do really use it. Hope this helps. -Haim Kilov haim@bcr.cc.bellcore.com

Gordon > Siemens Corporate Research Hi You can try: Brodie,M.L. et. al "On Conceptual Modelling", Springer-Verlag, first edition, New York, 1984. This book is a collection of articles. It might be a little outdated but there seems not to be too many books on Semantic Modelling. This books contains articles like: Borgida, A. et. al. "Generalization/Specialization as a basis for Software Specification" You can also try this article for references: Hull,R. King, R. "Semantic Database Modelling: Survey, Applications, and Research Issues", ACM Computing Surveys, Vol. 19, No. 3 Sept. 1987, pp. 202-260. or: Peckham J., Maryanski, F. "Semantic Data Models", in ACM Computing Surveys, Vol. 20, No. 3, Sept. 1988. I hope this helps. -- --------------------------------- * ----------------------------------- Agustin Gonzalez-Tuchmann dbase-l list owner.
