[comp.lang.postscript] Anything to PostScript filter wanted!!!

tj@gpu.utcs.toronto.edu (Terry Jones) (02/13/88)

It seems that every few days someone wants a this to ps or that to ps.
Maybe it is time someone put it all into one filter that did
epson, diablo, hpgl, dvi, plot etc to ps all in one. You would
use a switch to tell it which to ps you wanted.
Any takers out there that have gobs of time and no projects?
(Like I STILL haven't finished my hpgl to postscript converter
so I am definitely not in the gobs of time catagory!!!)

Does anyone out there have a PostScript to arbitrary bitmap coverter?
I'm talking about using a PostScript input file, and it will call
change color, plot point, draw line, etc. functions. There are a lot
of PostScript images out there, but we don't have a printer that will
     do it.
			Thanks in advance,

The original poster asked for something to ps converters to be merged.
Since ps is more powerful than most of the somethings, this is
feasible, but tedious and perhaps unwise. I'm not sure you want to
merge dvitops with plottops. This program would have more options than
your swiss army knife.

Ps to something is another can of worms. Given that you want to go to
lowlow resolution you may end up with less than useable quality and
performance. However, if you are intent on trying you might look at
Crispin Goswell's ps previewer to get an idea of the magnitude of the
task. And it runs as fast as mollasses. Not the author's fault, just
the sheer amount of work the program has to do.

Oh, and don't forget to tell us all where you can get fonts to match
the ps fonts.
