[comp.lang.postscript] USENET Backbone has mysterious ways

reid@decwrl.dec.com (Brian Reid) (03/23/88)

It turns out that a couple of months ago, two of the members of the USENET
Backbone "cabal" decided to elevate about 30 of the "inet only" newsgroups
into "full newsgroup" status. They didn't go through the normal voting and
publicity procedure, they just did it. Given that I am myself a voting
member of this mysterious backbone cabal and that I (in theory at least)
receive all of the mail sent to the usenet backbone, I'm quite surprised that
this managed to sneak up on me. Anyhow, for the last 2 months
comp.lang.postscript has been a regulation USENET group and not merely an
inet group. Of course the majority of its readers are still on the ARPAnet
side, and they will get cut off if the info-postscript list disappears.
Ah, network politics.
