From the April 1988 issue of Fine Print: Give us mustard, sage, periwinkle, orange, and turquoise - especially if they are colors silkscreened on a typographic poster designed by that modern master of the poster, Lance Hidy. The subject is the Stone typeface, the first original alphabet designs created in the Postscript computer language at Adobe Systems. (For a discussion of new types for personal computers, see "On Type," Fine print, January 1988.) The type designer is Sumner Stone, who appears on the poster, coolly facing his monitor, his confidence no doubt bolstered by the full display of his types which appear to surround him. The poster was hand silkscreened by Rob Day. Copies of the limited edition of 240, printed on 100 percent rag paper and signed by the artist, are available for $55 from Mink Brook Editions, P.O. Box 458 West Lebanon, New Hampshire 03784. My copy of the poster came a few days ago; it's number 46. The back cover of Fine Print has an ad which may be of interest: Fine Print On Type. The best of Fine Print Magazine on Type and Typography, 1977-1988. Over a decade's worth of articles from the pages of Fine Print magazine, now gathered together with all illustrations in one useful reference volume.
