[comp.lang.postscript] Looking for Postscript sonata font...

chimelis@refuge.colorado.edu (Chris Chimelis) (11/15/88)

Can someone help me? I'm looking for the sonata font for
postscript. I'm doing some musical research and want a
postscript font that I could print musical scores with.
Mail me or post if you think someone else might care.

Thanks in advance...

You might try purchasing it from Adobe for $60, like everyone else.

My apologies for a flip and hasty answer...

Sonata is a commercial font sold by Adobe. It wouldn't be polite
(or legal) to give it away. It can be purchased rather cheaply
by university types, however. Try calling Adobe toll free at
1-800-344-8335.

There are other fonts available for the same purpose (such as the
Petrucci font that Coda packages inside Finale for the Macintosh) ,
but I'm not aware of any postscript music font that is publically
available.

Does anyone else know of any publically available font?

Once again, sorry for my outburst.

Geez. Excuse me for asking. I wasn't aware that sonata was a
commercial font. It was hinted to me (from various people around
here) that it might be available free. Excuse me for asking around.
I don't think that I would have posted if I knew it was commercial
so don't jump on my back!

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. Don't worry about the
outburst. I've been under a bit of strain lately myself and am prone
to do the same.

Once again, thanks for the number (I really needed that).

As per your question, I believe Sun has some fonts that are available
for free. I'm not sure so don't hold me to it. They have a nice one
that we have under NeWS that is a full Japanese font. It's great.
Full character set and more.

If you find anything out about free fonts, let me know. Thanks.

A small correction: Adobe sells *the* Sonata (TM) font.
There is no other. Call "800 83 FONTS" for more information.
