[comp.lang.postscript] changing appletalktype for LaserWriter

deke@valhalla.ee.rochester.edu (12/12/88)

I have a LaserWriter/PostScript question that I hope some of you
can help me with. I have a LaserWriter Plus and would like to change
its "appletalktype" field to be other than "LaserWriter" so that the
MacIntosh "chooser" cannot find it. I'm using KINETICS KSPOOL and
want people to send their print jobs only to the "spoolers" and not
directly to LaserWriters. My understanding is that by changing the
appletalktype of the LaserWriter, I can accomplish what I want.

I've just started reading the _Apple LaserWriter Reference Manual_
(which unfortunately is strongly oriented towards the LaserWriter II series)
and am a PostScript neophyte, but it would appear that the following PostScript
program should do essentially what I want:

%!
serverdict begin 0 exitserver
statusdict begin
statusdict /appletalktype NonLaserWriter put
end

I hoped that this would change the type field to "NonLaserWriter", but as
KINETICS "atservers" program, and the MacIntosh "CheckNet" program reveal,
it does not.

How can I accomplish this for a LaserWriter Plus?

Please respond by mail, and I'll summarize if there is general interest.
Thanks in advance.
