I have an interest in printing a very, very large drawing on a single sheet -- say, about 12 to 15 inches in diameter. What's the largest page size available on a PostScript typesetter? I've seen 11" x 17" offered by a number of vendors of such services, but I've never seen anything larger. Anyone know of any machines or vendors that can do larger? -- Clayton E. Sizes up to ``tabloid size'' can be had on the Linotronic after the 300, (I can't remember if its a 350, 400, 600 or whataver). Your best chance is calling the linotronic folks and finding the closest Sales office. Ask them who has one of these big beasts in the area. It's usually a newspaper. Then you have to sweet-talk them into letting you have some time on their machine. >Disclaimer? You must be kidding! No company would hold opinions like mine! There has been a recent (like 2 weeks ago!) upgrade to the PostScript RIP 2 for the Linotronics that eliminates length limitations for all resolutions; you can now go as long as the amount of material left in your input cassette. Previously, L300 users were limited to a maximum page size of 11.7 wide x 12.9 long at hi-res (2540 dpi). You still have the 11.7" limitation (which is a hardware limitation of the recorder) but can go much longer (I have sent out pages over 30" long at hi-res with no problems. If the 11.7" width is a problem, look for a service bureau that has an L500, which can print much wider (one such service bureau is Ries Graphics; they are located near to here in Butler, Wisconsin). The upgrade is a version 49.3 PostScript upgrade (for the RIP 2 ONLY!). For anyone out there who owns/operates a Lino, the upgrade costs $750 from Linotype ($500 if your RIP is under a service contract).
