[comp.lang.postscript] DPS, C programs and PS workalikes

I have heard of several Postscript workalikes running under
X windows, DOS and other operating systems.  Is there any 
degree of standardization in the calling of postscript functions
from C programs?  What is the actual availability  of the workalikes
as C libraries?
