[comp.lang.postscript] grayscale -> color mapping ??

I'm looking for information on mapping a grayscale into a colorscale
so that the colors go from "cold" (blue) to "hot" (red and then
white).

I'm currently mapping gray into (s,v,h) values with s=v=1 and
0<=h<=0.667 which gives a "rainbow" (blue-green-yellow-red) and then
converting into (r,g,b) values before output.  I've seen displays
using the "cold" to "hot" mapping and they seem more natural to
interpret.

Does anyone know of any references on this?
