There are several PostScript examples around that provide information about the metrics of a selected font. But all of these scripts fail, if the following information is required: 1) What is the distance between the base line and the top line? 2) What is the distance between the base line and the cap line? 3) What is the distance between the base line and the half line? 4) What is the distance between the base line and the bottom line? Definitions: base line: line along which the characters are normally positioned. top line: line parallel to base line above which no parts of characters extend. cap line: line parallel to base line that forms the upper boundary for most of the upper case letters. half line: line parallel to base line that forms the upper boundary for most of the lower case letters. bottom line: line parallel to base line beyond which no parts of characters extend. You may question, why we need such information? Mostly for layout purposes, where text strings are to be vertically aligned. Can anybody help us getting this information with PostScript means? We tried already "FontBBox" in "FontDictionary". Does this give us at least top and bottom line? Anyway, we need the other information too.
