I have been having a problem with both the NEC (LC890) and the TI PostScript
printers: If I set them to LaserJet emulation and then use Microsoft Word 5.0
(PC version) with the Bitstream Dutch downloadable font, then the margins come
out ragged, apparently due to mis-selection of the fonts to be printed.
By the way, the same setup works fine on LaserJet emulations that are NOT also
capable of running PostScript; that is what first lead me to believe it was a
PostScript problem. Close examination of the output indicates that the font is
slightly different than Dutch!
I believe what is happening is that Word is using the Bitstream font widths
but then when it downloads the Bitstream Dutch fonts to the printer and selects,
them, it is actually getting the built-in TmsRoman fonts instead. Since Dutch
does not match TmsRoman exactly for widths, the margins end up ragged. Sigh.
Two questions:
1) How can I get Word/Fontware to cause the NEC/TI to use the Dutch fonts
that are being downloaded instead of the builtin (scalable) TmsRoman?
2) If the above is impossible, how can I get Word to use the Adobe widths
even though I am running the printer in LaserJet emulation mode rather
than PostScript mode? That is, how do I get Word to understand that
the scalable Adobe fonts are available even though the device is LJ+ like?
