[comp.lang.postscript] PhostStones?

dsill@ark1.nswc.navy.mil (Dave Sill) (09/13/89)

Are there any "standard" PostScript benchmarks? How about conformance
suites?

Let me say right off that there are lies, damned lies, and benchmarks.
We all have a love/hate relationship with them, but there comes a time
when we need hard evidence on the performance of a system, and
benchmarks give us nice, reproducible, comparable numbers.

So are there any standard PS benchmark packages? Anything free?

What about PS conformance suites? With the coming of PS clones and
compatibles it sure would be nice for the average person to determine
just how compatible a non-Adobe implementation is. I've heard there
are testing labs that certify the compatibility of clones. Do they
really exist? Who are they? Can they be trusted? Where can one get
a list of certified clones?

This is an offshoot of my evaluation of a PS-compatible (report just
posted) it sure would be nice if I didn't have to buy and test one of
each. Surely I'm not the only one doing this kind of thing. I've
seen summaries of PS printers in magazines, but they don't seem to go
past the features checklist.

Any help/response would be appreciated.
